This former medical facility was purchased by the city of Allen Park for the purpose of accommodating the city hall and the police department. The design work required total demolition of existing construction of 23,000 sq.ft. and the addition of a sally port of 1,000 sq.ft. to the side of the building, and 6,000 sq.ft. addition at the front. The combined facility is designed to house the two functions with separate ingress and egress.
This city hall portion of the building occupies approximately 50% of the space that includes public lobby, service counters, council chambers and administrative offices.
The police department portion is comprised of sally port, 9 detention cells, booking and prisoner processing, video arraignment, ammunition storage, squad room, police desk and records, evidence processing and storage as well as administrative offices.
A total new building system were designed to serve the multiple functions accommodated and meet the various needs, this included all new HVAC, Electrical including new 500 KVA emergency generator, Plumbing, Partial structural and complete architectural scope. In addition, the police communication tower was relocated to the roof of this facility. Also, a public street behind the building was vacated to accommodate the police patrol vehicles and logistics of handling prisoners. Civil engineering and utility design performed to adequately service the new complex.
